Our May Meeting was a meeting of two halves, the first half was players on the stage, then we moved on to a free for all (practice night) format. We started the night with Bernard Bamber playing The Old Rugged Cross, Danny Boy, Your Cheating Heart, McNamaras Band, Paper Roses, He’ll Have To Go, My Grandfathers Clock, John Peel and Daisy Bell. Our next player
Ann Parker took to the stage and Played Snow Waltz, Over The Waves, Beer Barrel Polka, Bluebell Polka and Frog Chorus. Colin Ensor was up next playing Please Don’t Talk, Greatest Mistake Of My Life, Island Of Dreams, Goodnight Irene, C’est La Fiesta, Lara’s Theme, Sailing By and Play To Me Gypsy.
The floor was then open for anyone to play anything in any part of the room, chat, drink coffee, repair accordions, swap tips, help each other with music etc.
The night ended at the usual 11pm when they came to lock the place up and we all went home happy to be able to meet up again and listen (and play) live music.

We will be meeting this Tuesday 21st of June. Doors open at 8pm with a hybrid meeting as detailed above. We will start with any players on the stage who want to play or practice playing to an audience, then we will move on to having the rest of the evening as a Practice Night. This way we can cater for most
people’s preferences in one night, if you prefer to play on stage please arrive sooner rather than later and we will get all stage performances done first. As usual there will be Tea and Coffee on sale at 20p a Cup.
Please bring yourselves and your accordion if you have one.
See you at 8pm on Tuesday 21st.
David.

Accordionist and Accordion Repairer Alan Young passed away on the 25th May 2022 aged 67.
Alan was born in London and later moved to the Isle of Wight where he worked as a self employed musician and repairer. Alan performed in pubs, clubs and restaurants on the Isle of Wight playing the Accordion or Piano/Keyboard. Alan was well known on the Accordion Festival scene where he could be found playing the accordion with other accordionists, or leaning over an Accordion which was in bits while he repaired it for festival attendees. He was always to be found in the trade shows where he
demonstrated accordions and you could also find him in the bar areas throughout the day and late at night playing with Harry Hussey.
Alan was surrounded by Accordions from a young age watching his dad Arthur repairing them, where he then also learnt how to repair Accordions and Pianos.
Alan will be missed at future Accordion events and festivals. He leaves behind his wife Ginny and Children Imogen and Edward.
