|
At our last meeting we started the night with Gordon Priestley playing Bianca Copanna, Over The Waves, A Polka Selection, Loveliest Night Of The Year, Red Roses For A Blue Lady, Four Leaf Clover, China Town, If You Knew Susie and, to finish, he played All Of Me. Our next player was Ann Parker who gave us Under Paris Skies, Hungarian Rhapsody, Style Musette, Romanza and Cossack Dance. Bernard
Bamber was up next, he started with 40 Shades of Green then went on to play Galway Bay, It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, Pack Up Your Troubles, Don’t Dilly Dally, Lambeth Walk, When I Grow Too Old to Dream Paper Roses, Auntie Mary Had a Canary, Skye Boat Song, The Pub With No Beer and Pawnshop On The Corner. Our next player was Michael Kristiansen who played Welcome to Skye, Loch Rannock, The Balkan Hills, Dundee City Police Pipe Band, Kate Martins Waltz and The Jig Runrig. The last stage
player of the night was Colin Ensor who gave us Please Don’t Talk, Why Did You Make Me Care, Stranger On The Shore, Goodnight Irene, Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain, Conquest Of Paradise, Charmaine and Who’s Taking You Home Tonight. After the stage performances the format changed to everyone doing their own thing around the room. A small group playing in one corner, others playing solo,
swapping tips, helping each other with music or just chatting and drinking tea and coffee for the rest of the night.
The night ended at the usual 11pm when they came to lock the place up. David

This Tuesday!
|
We will be meeting this Tuesday 21st
November. Doors open at 8pm with a hybrid meeting as usual. We will start with any players on the stage who want to play to an audience, then we will move on to having the rest of the evening as a Practice Night(Informal chat, playing etc. happening around the room). This way we can cater for most people’s preferences in one night, if you prefer to play on stage please arrive sooner rather than later and we will see the stage performances first. As usual there will be Tea
and Coffee on sale at 20p a Cup. See you at 8pm this Tuesday 21st November. David.

Christmas Meeting
|
As is normal for our December Christmas
Meeting we will be having a ‘Jacobs Join’, this is where we all try and bring some sandwiches, pork pies, cake, sausage rolls or some other form of food to put in to a communal feast. This will also be a night where we ask people to not only play the accordion but also to show their other talents if they do something besides play the accordion. Maybe you play the trumpet, banjo, sing, play the keyboard, recite amusing ditties or have some other talent you would like to share with us, if so
we look forward to your performance. We also look for anyone teaming up with another player or two on the December night if you want to have a go at playing together. If you are a nervous player, or have not played in front of anyone before then this is a good night to make your debut. After the food has been laid out and others are choosing what to eat, you could take your turn on the stage and get some playing in while others are concentrating on their food. I look forward to seeing you
there.

AI Accordion Poem and Photos
|
You can’t have missed out on someone
mentioning the terms Artificial Intelligence on tv, but may not have seen any output from it. I deliver computer and programming training courses to schools, colleges, large organisations and small businesses. One of the courses I am now offering is for small businesses to learn how AI can help them be more productive. For this newsletter I thought I would ask AI for a Poem about Leyland Accordion Club (I didn’t tell it anything other than our name) and some photos of a Raucous party at Leyland
Accordion Club. The two Artificial Intelligence programs had to look us up on the Internet, make its own view of what we are, then create a poem and some photos. I think you will find it interesting to see what it thought of us in words and pictures below(see if you spot yourself in the photos!). It was strange to see that even though I asked it for what it thought Leyland Accordion Club looked like, it
managed to misspell the name in the various photos. The poem took it about ten seconds to generate, and the photos took about ten to twenty seconds to generate. I think you will be impressed with the images it came up with from just the name of the club. It had to look us up on the internet, read about us, work out what an accordionist looked like, then generate an image of one of our nights. I don’t think
it got close but I am still impressed with what the technology can do in just a few seconds. You will find a woman in there is offering a pint to a player, notice her arm (it has two elbow joints in it!), some players have the wrong number of fingers etc. but each image was ‘imagined’ in about ten seconds by the AI. The Poem Leyland Accordion Club is a place to be If you love the music of the squeezebox family Piano, button, melodeon or concertina you'll find a friendly crowd and a warm arena Every third Tuesday of the month, they meet and play, sometimes they have a guest artist to brighten up the day, sometimes they have a practice night to share and
learn, but always they have fun and laughter at every turn Leyland Accordion Club is more than just a club, it's a social gathering of people who love the sound of the accordion, the joy of the song The feeling of belonging, the sense of being strong So if you're in Lancashire, and looking for a treat why not visit
Leyland Accordion Club and take a seat, you'll be welcomed with a smile and a cup of tea and you'll hear some amazing music from the accordion family. The Photos
