Last Month
|
At our last meeting we started at the usual 8pm. Our first player of the night was Michael Kristiansen, he started with Boys of Blue Hill and Margarets Waltz, he then went on to play Bluebell Polka, Lewis & Harris Gathering, Father John McMillan and Donald McClean Farewell To Oban. Up next was Bernard Bamber playing Singing The Blues, You’re My Best Friend, Old
Flames, Paper Roses, I Love You Just Because You’re You, Someday, Putting On The Style, Halfway To Paradise and Blackpool Belle. Ann Parker was next, playing Snow Waltz, Loveliest Night Of The Year, Under Paris Skies, Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves and Roundabout. Our next player was Derek who was new to the club. He hadn’t brought his accordion but he borrowed mine to give us some tunes. Derek learnt to play the accordion without realising he was playing upside down, so he just turns a normal
accordion upside down to play (so the bass buttons are on the right and the keys are on the left). Derek played Lassie From Lancashire, My Girls A Yorkshire Girl, I Belong To Glasgow, Irish Eyes and Land Of My Father. I was up next, playing Oslo Waltz, Whispering Hope and Sailors Hornpipe Medley. Colin Ensor was our next player, he played Down Forget Me Not Lane, More Than You Know, Please Don’t Talk, The Old Accordion Man, Pigalle, Kate Martins Waltz, Sailing By and The Way Old Friends
Do. After the stage performances were over we then moved on to the informal part of the night, with people playing in various locations and groups around the room, chatting, drinking tea and coffee, swapping stories and tips, and generally having a good time.
The night ended at the usual
11pm. David Batty

Stefan and Denise
|
Stefan Andrusyshyn, who is a very
accomplished accordion player, has been a guest artist at Leyland Accordion Club in the past, so some of you will remember him. Recently Stefan and his opera Singer wife Denise took part in the Britain’s got talent competition on TV. Stefan was playing the piano rather than the accordion, this was to accompany his opera singing wife. Their first audition saw them perform Climb Every Mountain from the Sound Of Music with Stefan on the Piano and Denise singing. They were then voted through to the
semi finals where they performed You’ll Never Walk Alone. To see their first audition visit https://www.itv.com/watch/britains-got-talent/1a7470/1a7470a0212 they perform at the end of the show To see their Semi Final Performance visit https://www.itv.com/watch/britains-got-talent/1a7470/1a7470a0220 they perform at about 1 hour into the
programme.
