I am putting this mini newsletter out in advance of Sunday when seven part series World On Fire starts on BBC1.
You may spot a few places that look familiar, and a face you know.
The accordionist in it in the ENSA troupe is Steve Roxton who is playing a white accordion kindly loaned to him by Colin Ensor. To keep in with the WW2 theme Colin loaned him the accordion for several weeks while the filming took place. This accordion was later sold (by Colin, not Steve!) to Wendy Farran who is the current owner.
Steve says you might blink and miss him, he was being filmed for several weeks but we will have to wait and see how the edit goes.
The series was filmed in various locations and countries, but war scenes were filmed on Formby Beach, Lytham Beach, a concert was filmed in Formby Woods. Rochdale Town Hall (pictured below) is the location of one of the concerts, and the hanger you see in the photographs below was at City Airport Manchester.
I am sending this out now, because the first programme goes out this Sunday, but we only found out the date it starts airing this week. For weeks they have been advertising it as 'Coming in Autumn'.
The programme is on BBC1 on Sunday at 9pm, it runs for seven weeks.
