Our January Meeting started at 8pm with the usual chat as everyone arrived and greeted each other, once we had settled down we started with Kathryn playing The Jester, Home Sweet Home, Oh Bury Me Not On The Lone
Prairie, The Caissons Go Rolling Along and Loveliest Night Of The Year. Our next player was Hannah from Adlington who was attending the club for the first time having previously met us on our first Wednesday of the month video meeting. Hannah Clarke took to the stage and was happy to make her Debut playing Ode To Joy, GreenSleeves, Dirty Old Town, What Should We Do With A Drunken Sailor and Money Can’t Buy Me Love. It was nice to see Hannah playing for us when she has only recently started
playing the accordion. Our next player was Michael Kristiansen who played Bonnie Galloway, Rowan Tree, Come By The Hills, Boys Of The Blue Hill, South Georgia Whaling Song, Leaving Lishmore, Battle Of The Somme and finally to finish, The Heights Of Dargai. Ann Parker was up next playing Memories Are Made Of This, The Third Man Theme, Frog Chorus, Bluebell Polka, Beer Barrel Polka and Snow Waltz. Our final stage player was Sara Daly playing Dundas
Loch, Genevieve’s Waltz, Sailing Through The Narrow and Emma and Jamies Wedding. After
the stage performances we changed format and everyone went to do their own thing around the room. A small group playing in one corner, others playing solo, swapping tips, helping each other with music or just chatting and drinking tea and coffee.
The night ended at the usual 11pm when they came to lock the place up and we all went home happy to be able to meet up again and listen (and play) live music. David Batty

A new
show started last week called “The Piano”. The show is a competition to select an amateur pianist to perform at the Royal Festival Hall. Each weekly show sees a group of People performing on a “Street Piano” in a railway station or other public place. They know they are being filmed but they don’t know two people are secretly watching and judging them. The first show revolved
around a street piano based at London St Pancras Train Station. We were Excited to see that Accordionist Harry Hussey was one of the participants of the show. You can watch the show on Channel 4’s catch up service All 4 https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-piano/on-demand/70963-001 The show also filmed in Harrys house where we saw his wife Pat. We were saddened to see in the titles at the end that the show was dedicated to Harry’s Wife Pat
who passed away on the 17th November 2022. Anyone who knew Harry, also knew Pat. She was a wonderful cheery person who always gave us hugs and lots of chat when we met her at accordion festivals. She will be sadly missed by many.

Accordionist Murray Grainger is holding a workshop in Nottingham on the 16th April, the Workshop is about Tune development and arrangement on the accordion. Here is how Murray has described the workshop. “Have you ever wondered how the professionals take a simple short tune of only a few bars and
turn it into an exciting rich and varied piece? If so then this course is for you! On Sunday 16th April Murray Grainger will be running a workshop in the beautiful village of Misson in Nottinghamshire. Through the day you will work with Murray as you explore how to develop tunes into a more interesting and varied arrangement. He will be looking at the use of ornamentation, harmonies, rhythmic elaboration and variation, as well as how the left hand can help you to take a simple tune and shape it into the arrangement you have always wanted. The workshop runs from 10am until 4pm and costs only £50 with tea and coffee available throughout the course. All teaching materials will be provided before the day, both sheet music and audio recordings of the repertoire. Attendance is by booking only, space is strictly limited so it is recommended to book
as soon as possible! “ To Book visit https://mgrainger.co.uk/workshops/
