Our October concert started with Bernard Bamber playing We Will Make Love, Travelling Light, Putting On The Style and Lovely Rose Of Clare. Ann Parker was our next player, she played Romanze, Vienna City Of My Dreams and Frog Chorus. Rebecca then took to the stage and played Moon
River, Home On The Range and La Valse D’Ameile. It was now time for our guest artists to start their first spot. The John Stuart Scottish Dance Band took to the stage and started with Lady Dorothyea and Stuart Murray. After intrudcucing themselves they continued the music with Wades Welcome To Inverness, Pipe Major W Ross, Doctor Morrison’s Seven Thistles, Lord Huntlys Cave, The Cameron Highlanders, The Bothwick Men, MacFial From Bunessen and Andrew Combe of Kimbton. The entertainment
continued with a set of reels which Included Miss Jean Milligan, William Richie esq, The Kettle Drum and Lucy Scaup. John finished his first half with Red River Valley, Coming Round The Mountain, Tavern In The Town, Camp Town Races, Skip To My Lou, Oh Susanna, Stop Your Tiklin’ Jock, Irish Rover, Wild Colonial Boy, Yankee Doodle Dandy Shores Of Tripoli and Lockerbie Lament. After the break I played Triste Sourire and Whispering Hope. Colin Ensor played Maigret, Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain
and Charmaine. Sara Daly played Fathers Waltz and Granddaughters Dream. The John Stuart Scottish Dance Band started their second spot with The Duke Of Perth then continued with The Devorn Reel, Babes In The Wood, The Arrans, Roxburgh Castle, Miss Jacqueline Stuart Reel, The New High level, Mrs Mary Printy, Mony Musk, The Fiddlers Joy, Sidlaw Hills, JM Duffy, the slow air Mrs Aileen M Jamieson, and Moving Cloud. This had been a great night of entertainment from John and the band featuring
some incredibly accurate playing.

This Wednesday is a Local Players concert with performances from our
local players. Please remember to bring along your accordion, or if you don’t play the accordion then bring along yourself instead to support our players. The doors open on Wednesday night at 7.30pm for a prompt 8pm start. Please come along for a night of musical entertainment and socialising. We are starting to collect Membership fees for 2016, this is to remain at the same price it has always been which is £5
per year. With inflation you could say that every year its got cheaper to be a member of the club and to attend our concerts because I have kept the fees as low as possible, I try to keep prices down to make the club affordable while helping towards our expenses. You can pay your membership on the door in November, December or January. The proceeds go towards the great artists we have lined up in the coming months, stamps for postage and also an Internet service to send out the newsletters
to those who choose to receive the newsletter by email (those who get the newsletter by email get working links they can click on rather than have to type in). If you are paying by cheque please make your cheque payable to “David Batty”.

Jimmy Shand's Collection of Music Conserved
|
Rare music books collected by accordion player and band leader Sir Jimmy Shand are to be conserved for future generations of musicians. The collection, dating back to the 1700s, was bought at auction by the Friends of Dundee's Wighton Heritage Centre in 2013. Many of the books are in
such poor condition that they are unusable, so a fundraising campaign was launched to raise the thousands of pounds needed to restore them, the campaign closed on the 11th October 2015 with a total of £2,002 donated by 51 people. Singer Sheena Wellington, a Friend of Wighton, said: "What we have are things that are rare, unusual and nowhere else. "Once we have them conserved then they're available for scholars, for musicians, for use by the community and we're intending that as each one is done
to have a concert, ceilidh and set of workshops. "Jimmy didn't pick them up because they were going to look bonny on his shelves. He picked them up because what was in them mattered and that's what we think as well." New Rope String Band Call It a Day (For Now)

The New Rope String Band have called time on the band for now, Their website Reads “The New Rope String Band have come to the end of their
tether. The sheer strain of spreading joy around the world for more than 25 years as Old and New Rope has proved too much. Audiences' laughter muscles have been stretched and twanged and they, too, need a rest. But, before these ageing folk-cabaret artistes go their separate ways, heading for new and exciting theatrical and musical horizons, they decided to do a farewell lap of honour, a celebratory extravaganza of their finest routines with some specially-created final flourishes of fish
tanks, boiled eggs, fiddles, banjos, cardboard guitars, theremins, explosions, interactive films, drainpipes, mermaids, pink y-fronts, thrills, spills, tears and hilarity. For diehard audiences it was a chance to go along, laugh once more and say goodbye.” Their last concert was on the 30th October 2015 at The Tyne Theatre and Opera House which sold out. If you’ve never seen or heard of the New Rope String Band they are a group of three musician playing Accordion, Violin and other

Lancashire Day is the county day of historic
Lancashire in England. It is held on 27 November to commemorate the day in 1295 when Lancashire first sent representatives to Parliament, to attend the Model Parliament of King Edward I. Lancashire Day was first held in 1996. Curated by the Friends of Real Lancashire, it is observed with the loyal toast to "The Queen, Duke of Lancaster", and is celebrated from everywhere within the county palatine. The day is marked throughout the historic county by town criers announcing the Lancashire Day

Midland Accordion Festival

The Midland Accordion Festival took place this month on the weekend of 6th November, a good time was had by all. Dates for the next festival are

Leyland Town Team (A Group of Leyland Businesses and Individuals who have got together to promote Leyland) have been raising money to light up Leyland this Christmas with spectacular festive lights and a light switch on. They have been raising money by selling a 2016 Calendar containing then and now pictures and packing bags at a number of supermarkets. On 28th November there will be a Christmas Festival and light switch on with Santa’s Grotto, Stalls, Entertainment and Activities
throughout the day from 11:30am on Hough Lane and Leyland Market with the light switch on happening around 5pm.
