This Wednesday is one of our Local Players concerts. Please ensure you bring along your accordion and your music (if needed). If you have not played on the
stage before then you will find playing on stage at the concert nights a great way to gain more confidence in a supportive environment. I hope you can make it to support the club and the other players. The night starts at 8pm but doors are always open for 7.30pm for a chat before the concert starts. I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

In May Avon released a new TV advert to advertise their new Mascara called “Big & Extreme” The Woman in the advert is seen to be applying the mascara while a voice over talks about the benefits of the mascara and the time it save by not having to go to a salon to have your eyelashes done, the advert then cuts to a shot of the same woman wearing an accordion while doing a bit of fake playing, she then says “ Now I can use all the time I have saved
on my latest musical obsession” the camera then pans out to the woman jumping about and “playing” the accordion. So there you have it who knew that not having to visit a salon to have your eyelashes done saves you enough time to learn to play the accordion! The TV advert can be watched on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O58P5A5K_e0

Little Big Shots Accordionist
|
On ITV there is a program called “Little Big Shots” it’s presented by Dawn French and the purpose of the show is to show off the talents of children from all around the world, they have a variety of skills from singing, scooter tricks, circus acts, musician etc. At the end of May they showcased a 12 year old Accordionist called Ciaran who is already a national champion. He played a pop song called 'Despacito'.
It’s great to see young people taking up the Accordion. Looking at Accordion Clubs and Festivals It seems like there aren’t many young people playing the Accordion although the competitions show a different story, there are many young people taking part in competitions. If you’d like to see Ciaran’s performance on Little Big Shots the clip has been uploaded to youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzUsXo7TcH4 If you are
interested to see the original version of ‘Despacito’ this is the official video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJQP7kiw5Fk

French Accordionist Yvette Horner has died aged 95 she won the Coupe Mondiale in 1948. She established her popularity by accompanying the caravan of the Tour de France eleven times. During her career of seventy years, Yvette gave more than two thousand concerts and made a hundred and fifty
records, whose cumulative sales amount to thirty million copies.
Yvette’s agent Jean-Pierre Brun said “the woman who had made more than 300 albums and sold millions of recordings in her career was not ill. "She died from a life filled to the brim." he said.
Yvette
Horner referred to music as her whole life and "the accordeon was 15 kilos in my arms, that's 15 kilos of happiness".” Born Yvette Hornère in the south-western city of Tarbes on the 22 September 1922, Horner began her career in 1947. Her mother modified the family
surname because she found the shorter version "more commercial". A year later, she was the first woman to win the Coupe Mondiale. Horner's parents ran a theatre and she grew up in a household of music lovers. She studied piano before being introduced to the
accordion by her mother. In the early 1950s Horner formed her orchestra and began touring. Her music became popular thanks to her role as official mascot for the Tour de France cycle race. For 11 years she rode atop the publicity vans playing her
accordion. At the end of the 1980s, after her husband's death, she changed her look with the help of French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, swapping her jet black hair for flamboyant red and wearing extravagant outfits. Produced by Quincy Jones in 1989, Horner
played music by David Bowie, Michael Jackson and even tried some rap. In the French television show Taratata , she accompanied British pop star Boy George. Gaultier designed the stage costumes for Horner's last concert in 2011 as well as the CD cover for her album of the same year Yvette Hors Norme. Horner was given several special French awards throughout her life, notably the Légion D'Honneur, awarded by then president François Mitterrand.

Toronto Subway Buskers article from The Siver Times
|
Even being accordionists here at Leyland, we can see how these two chaps might annoy people with their one tune act!...
Two
accordion players that entertained and annoyed passengers on the subway in Toronto with performances of hit song “Despacito”, learned a second tune, but the transit Agency of the city say that the band is still breaking the law. The players, whose
performances in the subway cars became viral on the Internet in recent weeks, received a warning that they must stop, otherwise they are threatened with more serious punishment than a fine. In a video released this week, the players have learned a different
popular tune. But a spokesman for the Commission on transit in Toronto Stuart green said that the expansion of the repertoire makes their actions more legitimate. Green said that on Thursday, the musicians were fined $235 and issued two summons to the court.
He says that the transit Agency understands that musicians have supporters and critics, but notes that their actions are contrary to the Charter of the TTC and must stop. “Moreover, it undermines the expectations of our customers relative calm of the trip,
it may prevent people with low vision, and anyone who relies on the audio message to stop,” said green on Thursday. He said that there is a legal way for musicians to perform at the metro, using the terms of the project “Underground Sounds”, but even then
they will be forbidden to play in the cars. Green also noted that, if they don’t stop, it can lead to not only increasing the amount of fines and penalties in the form of probation. The first hearing will take place on 1 June, and the second on 20 July, said
green. A Video of the buskers has been uploaded to YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP197D_VuRU
