Our March Concert started with Bernard Belshaw playing If You Loved Me, This Is My Song, Blaze Away, How Beautiful You Are, Blue Tango, Stranger In Paradise, True Love, El Combanchero, Wooden Heart and Ain’t She Sweet. It was now time for our guest artists to take to the stage. Making a welcome return to the
club were Julie Best and Jean Corrighan. The pair started with March Vedette, after a quick chat with the audience they continued with a great selection of tunes starting with Triste Sourire, then moving on to play Chanson D’Amour, The Poor People Of Paris, Under The Bridges Of Paris, Allo Allo, Les Triolets, Corinne, Choe Java, Maigret, Under Paris Skies, Can Can Polka, Cest Magnifique, I Love Paris, Bourrasque, Rouge Et Noir and Ballade Matinelle. It was now time for the break during
which several people got to catch up with Julie and Jean. After the break we started the entertainment with Colin Ensor playing Please Don’t Talk about Me When I’m Gone, Pigalle, Folsom Prison Blues and Charmaine. Ann Parker was up next playing Woodland Fantasia and Frog Chorus. Bernard Bamber then took to the stage and entertained us with 40 Shades Of Green, If You Ever Got To Ireland, I Love A Lassie, Roaming In The Gloaming, A Wee Dock & Doris and Galway Bay. To make sure I didn’t miss
out playing I just played Sailors Hornpipe/Magic Roundabout. Julie and Jean returned to the stage for their second spot of the night. They started with Pigmy, O Sole Mio, Speak Softly Love, Dantesque, Lass Of Bon Accord, Black Bear, Jimmy and Micky, I Wanna Be Like You, The Bare Neccessities Of Life, Happy Go Lucky Polka, Tulips From Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Home To Donegal, These Are My Mountains, Cockles and Mussels, Harmonica Trick, Ashokan Farewell and to finish, Dancing Fingers. There
were calls for an encore so the pair finished with Oh Dear What Can The Matter Be, It’s Nice To Get Up In The Morning, I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside and Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts. This had been an excellent concert from Julie and Jean who kept us on the edge of our seats with their impeccable timing. If you haven’t heard Julie and Jean playing then you are missing out. We look forward to seeing them at the club again in future.

Six months of motorway roadworks across 17 miles of carriageway on the M6. Highways England are set to carry out resurfacing work on the M6 from junction 24 for Ashton-in-Makerfield to junction 29 for Bamber Bridge. A 50mph speed restriction will be enforced on both the northbound and southbound carriages
between the two junctions, spanning around 17 miles.
As part of the work, a traffic order has been put in place from Wednesday, May 1 to Saturday, November 30, with work happening between 9pm and 5am.
There will also be a number of slip road closures between the two junctions from 8pm to 5am - extended to 7am on weekends.
A spokesperson for Highways England said: “We will be carrying out resurfacing and other maintenance work overnight on short stretches of the M6 between St Helens and Blackburn later this year.
"The motorway will remain fully open with no impact on drivers during the day, and at least one lane will remain open in each direction during the night.
"We will need to introduce a temporary 50mph speed limit and some slip road closures overnight for the safety of drivers and road workers so would advise people travelling at night to allow extra time for their journeys. "When the scheme is complete, drivers will benefit from smoother and more reliable
journeys.”
And while the order comes into force on April 30, it has a maximum duration of 18 months if work needs additional time to be completed.
